UEGW Conference

UEGW update, with thanks to Georgina Williams, CRE Digestive Health Research Dietitian.

‘An inspiring week was spent at the United European Gastroenterology week in Vienna. This was my first international conference since COVID-19 and with more than 8000 delegates from over 140 countries, it was so exciting to be surrounded by so many experts in gastroenterology from all around the world! I was particularly pleased to see a big focus on the role of nutrition and dietetics across a range of topics, especially in the management of gastrointestinal disorders including IBD, IBS and NAFLD. This made me all the more excited for the important work we are doing at HMRI looking at dietary influences in these conditions. I presented an oral poster on my recent work exploring dietitian and consumer perspectives towards ‘gut health’ and was thrilled to be able to engage in answering questions on this topic with people from so many cultural and professional backgrounds. I was also really thrilled to be part of the UEG Women in GI event, which showcased the work of many fabulous women in gastrointestinal practice and research. All in all, UEG week has provided a fantastic opportunity for new ideas, global connections and lessons learnt to take back to our team in Newcastle’
