Advisory Board Chair seeking clinical practice and gut health outcomes for the CRE

The Centre of Research Excellence in Digestive Health is delighted to announce that Emeritus Professor Fred D’Agostino has graciously accepted an invitation to the role of Chair of the CRE Advisory Board. Fred D’Agostino is the Emeritus Professor of Humanities at The University of Queensland, where he was previously President of the Academic Board, and a UQ Senator. He works in political philosophy and in scientific method.

Speaking of his appointment to this position, Professor D’Agostino commented “I’m not a scientist or medico nor, indeed, do I suffer from any digestive disorder (fingers crossed!), but I am interested in how projects are managed for success and bring to the role my experience in governance, management, and administration. I recently chaired the review of academic governance at the University of Newcastle and I’m a member of the steering group overseeing the scoping of the sector being undertaken by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, among other responsibilities”. When asked about his hopes for the CRE, he reflects “The science is and will be intrinsically rewarding, but the highest objective for the Centre is to enhance clinical practice and health outcomes. The watching brief for the Advisory Board is defined by this objective”.

In the two-year tenure of this position, the CRE Digestive Health Advisory Board and investigators are confident that Professor D’Agostino will bring great wisdom, oversight and vision to our ambitious and exciting program of work.
